HEMPEL’S POLYESTER GF 35990
BASE:35999 CURING AGENT:99090
Description: HEMPEL’S POLYESTER GF 35990 is a styrene free high solid, two-component heavy duty lining
system based on bisphenol polyester reinforced with glass flakes. Applicable in thick coats by
standard heavy duty airless spray equipment where styrene is not desirable or allowed.
Recommended use: 1. As rust preventing coating for areas exposed to high abrasion and impact.
2. As rust preventing coating for areas requiring short interval between application and seawater
immersion – 6 hours at 20°C/68°F is required.
Service temperature: Maximum, dry exposure only: 130°C/266°F
In water (maximum temperature gradient 30°C/63°F): 90°C/194°F
Certificates/Approvals: Conforms to Norsok M-501, system no. 1., 7.
Availability: Subject to confirmation.

APPLICATION DETAILS:
Version, mixed product: BASE 35999: CURING AGENT 99090
Mixing ratio: 98:2 by volume
Application method: Airless spray / Brush/Roller
(Consult the separate APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS)
Thinner (max.vol.): Do not dilute.
Pot life: 45 minute(s) 20°C/68°F
Nozzle orifice: 0.025 – 0.035 “
See separate APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Nozzle pressure: 250 bar [3625 psi]
(Airless spray data are indicative and subject to adjustment)
Indicated film thickness, dry: 500 micron [20 mils]
Indicated film thickness, wet: 525 micron [21 mils]
Overcoat interval, min: According to specification.
Overcoat interval, max: According to specification.
Safety: Handle with care. Before and during use, observe all safety labels on packaging and paint
containers, consult HEMPEL Safety Data Sheets and follow all local or national safety regulations.
HEMPEL’S THINNER 08960 or Methyl isobutyl ketone
(Consult the separate APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS)
SURFACE PREPARATION: New steel: Remove oil and grease etc. thoroughly with suitable detergent. Remove salts and
other contaminants by high pressure fresh water cleaning. Abrasive blasting to Sa 2½
(ISO 8501-1:2007).
Minimum surface profile corresponding to Rugotest No. 3, BN11a, Keane-Tator Comparator,
5.5 G/S,or ISO Comparator Coarse (G) – or as per specification for the subsequent coat(s).
After blasting, clean the surface carefully from abrasives and dust.
On pit-corroded surfaces, excessive amounts of salt residues may call for high pressure water
jetting, wet abrasive blasting or, alternatively, dry abrasive blasting, high pressure fresh water
hosting, drying, and finally dry abrasive blasting again.
Galvanized, Zinc primed steel etc.: Metallic zinc inhibits the curing process – the product is not
compatible with galvanized steel or other zinc coated substrates. Steel primed with zinc dust
containing pre-fabrication primers must be re-blasted to min. Sa 2½-3 to remove all traces of
zinc.
APPLICATION CONDITIONS: Use only where application and curing can proceed at temperatures above: 10°C/50°F.
The temperature of the paint itself should be: 15-25°C/59-77°F. Apply only on a dry and clean
surface with a temperature above the dew point to avoid condensation. Maximum relative
humidity: 85%.
In confined spaces provide adequate ventilation during application and drying.
PRECEDING COAT: None.
SUBSEQUENT COAT: According to specification.
REMARKS:
Colours/Colour stability: The product is made for high build corrosion protection in the most aggressive environments
and colours and shades cannot be expected to be finely matched neither towards given colour
standards nor between production batches. Furthermore it shall be noted that colour deviation
may occur from batch to batch depending on curing conditions. For matching of colours it is
recommended to apply a HEMPATHANE topcoat.
Application(s): The information about the theoretical spreading rate is given in good faith but rate may vary
significantly dependent upon environmental conditions, geometry, nature of work undertaken
and the skill and care of the application.
Film thicknesses/thinning: May be specified in another film thickness than indicated depending on purpose and area of
use. This will alter spreading rate and may influence drying time and overcoating interval. Normal range dry is:500-1000 micron 20-40 mils.
Minimum: 500 micron /20 mils. Maximum: 1250 micron / 50 mils.
Volume solids, %: This coating contains volatile liquid convertable to solids. Actual volume solids obtained will
vary upon polymerisation conditions. Normally 85% of contents are convertible to solid.
